How JapanBenri is funded
Affiliate disclosure
Some links on JapanBenri may earn us a small commission. Here is exactly what that means, and what it never changes.
Last updated:
In short: if you click an affiliate link on JapanBenri and then buy something, the seller may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra: you pay the same price as you would going to the seller directly. Commissions never change our tools, our numbers or the facts on our pages.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is an ordinary link to a seller, such as an eSIM shop, a tour booking site or a luggage storage service, that tells the seller the visit came from us. If you buy within the seller’s tracking window, the seller may pay JapanBenri a share of the sale. We may join affiliate networks such as Travelpayouts, which connect us to several travel brands at once, or work with a seller’s own programme.
- You never pay more because you used our link.
- You don’t have to use our links. Every tool works fully without them.
- We are not paid simply for mentioning a company, and nobody can pay to change a result.
Partners we link to
All of these links come through Travelpayouts. We picked each product because a traveller needs it at that point in the trip, not because of its commission rate.
| Partner | What we link to |
|---|---|
| Airalo | Japan eSIM |
| Saily | Japan eSIM |
| Klook | Japan Rail Pass, Tours and activities |
| Radical Storage | Luggage storage |
| Welcome Pickups | Airport transfer |
| KKday | Tours and activities |
| Go City | Sightseeing pass |
How we label them
Affiliate links we add ourselves appear only in a clearly marked “Recommended” box or a short “Useful for this trip” list below a tool or guide, never inside a tool’s results or a guide’s facts. Each one carries this note, with a link back to this page:
Partner link: if you buy through it we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend or the facts on this page.
Affiliate links we add ourselves are also marked in the page code with rel="sponsored", as search engines ask, and open in a new tab.
Travelpayouts Drive. Our guides, index and information pages also load the Travelpayouts Drive script. It can automatically turn an ordinary link to a partner brand into an affiliate link, or show a partner offer, so on those pages a link to a partner brand may earn us a commission even outside a “Recommended” box. It never changes our tools, our numbers or the facts we state, and it is not loaded on our tool pages at all.
What commissions never influence
- Our tools. Refund amounts, 90-day deadlines, ticket release times, furigana readings and card wording are produced by the same code for everyone. No partner can change them.
- Our facts. Rules come from official sources, such as Japan Customs, the Japan Tourism Agency, the National Tax Agency, the Consumer Affairs Agency and each venue’s own site, never from a seller’s marketing.
- What we say is required. We never tell you that you need a paid product when a free or official option exists, and when the official route is the best one (for example a venue’s own ticket site), we say so.
Official sources come first
Every rule-based page links to the official pages it relies on and shows the date we last checked them. If an official page and our summary ever disagree, the official page is right. The full list is on sources & methodology.
Your data
Our tools run on your device, in your browser. The text, amounts, dates and trip details you enter are not sent to us, and you don’t need an account. We don’t pass any of it to affiliate partners, and the Travelpayouts script is not loaded on tool pages, so it never sees it. On other pages that script sends Travelpayouts a copy of the page’s own content (our text, not yours). If you click an affiliate link, the network or seller may set a cookie on their own website so they can credit the sale to us; we only see totals such as the number of clicks and commissions, not who you are. Details, including how ads and cookies work, are in our privacy policy.
